Thanks to SISKA, Smallholders’ Cows Got Increasing Fast

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA - From only 124 cows, thanks to Sistem Integrasi Sapi dan Kelapa Sawit (SISKA) program, the cows belonging to Gapoktan Tani Maju get double in numbers. The cow breeding - partnership positively delivered impacts for smallholders’ economy.

Palm oil partnership is not about main - plasma system that has something to do with palm oil plantation cultivation because the smallholders in Village of Wonorejo, Sub district of Satui, Regency of Tanah Bumbu, South Kalimantan Province have got partnership to breed cows.

Chairman of Gabungan Kelompok Tani (Gapoktan) Tani Maju, Sugino (52) said that there are 24 plasma smallholders that breed cows. Each of them has about two hectares palm oil plantations per family.

The group is in partnership with PT Buana Karya Bhakti since 2021. Sugino said, they were encouraged to get Sistem Integrasi Kelapa Sawit Sapi Berbasis Kemitraan Usaha Ternak Inti Plasma (Siska Ku Intip).

From the partnership, Gapoktan got some helps, such as, electronic fan, one package of clamp cage, quarantine cage within 9 x 30 m. “And 20 cows from Balai Benih dan Inseminasi Buatan Singosari, while 4 others were from BPTU HPT Pelaihari,” he said to InfoSAWIT in the field visit to PT SISKA by the late of December 2023.

The partnership did not end in giving cows and other supporters needed only but also delivered chances for smallholders to take advantages on grazing land or areas to feed and breed the cows.

Sugino told besides grazing land, the company keeps delivering other helps from its corporate social responsibility and other development programs for the breeders. These eventually delivered impacts positively to develop the people’s welfare and economy.

Through the partnership program, Gapoktan Tani Maju now has 254 cows within 6 mature male cows, 21 immature male cows, 167 breeding cows, and one calf.

The successful stories are not about the increasing numbers of cows only, but also from beef cattle selling. For instance, in 2022, 24 Balinese cows were sold about Rp 16 million per cow. The highest demands happened when heading to Idul qurban - day. (T2)
