JAKARTA – According to Secretary of Agriculture, Indonesian palm oil area reaches 9,1 millions hectares. More than 40% of the total area or about 3 millions hectares belong to the farmers. Unfortunately, there 200 thousands hectares are in replanting process.

General Director of Plantation, Ministry of Agriculture, Gamal Nasir, half of the total people’s plantation should be in replanting process. “1,5 millions hectare should have replanting process,” he recently said to InfoSAWIT in Jakarta.

The Plantation Revitalization Programme was actually the government’s effort to the replanting process. Unfortunately, it has no good result yet. But for information, running the programme, the people get interest subsidy.

The reason of the postponed programme is the unfinish Spatial Plans in the centers of palm oil plantations. “In addition, the certifications belonging to the farmers are too,” Gamal said. q T3
