InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – Indonesia’s Forest Area Enforcement Task Force (Satgas PKH) said President Prabowo Subianto has taken firm action against 28 companies found to have violated laws in land use and forest area utilization.
The move came through a license revocation decision as part of the government’s broader efforts to tighten control over natural resource-based economic activities across the country.
The decision was made after President Prabowo held a limited meeting with ministries, agencies, and Satgas PKH via a virtual session from London, the United Kingdom, on Jan 19, 2026.
The firm stance followed Satgas PKH’s report on an in-depth audit into hydrometeorological disasters that struck North Sumatra, Aceh, and West Sumatra. The government considers the audit findings as a key basis to strengthen enforcement and ensure all land-based activities comply with regulations.
Attorney General’s Office spokesman and Head of the Legal Information Center (Kapuspenkum), Anang Supriatna, said the government will remain consistent in enforcing compliance among businesses operating in natural resource sectors.
“All decisive actions are taken solely to protect national interests and to achieve the greatest prosperity for the people of Indonesia,” Anang said in a written statement, as reported by InfoSAWIT on Wednesday (Jan 21, 2026).
28 Companies Lose Licenses
Based on the investigation, President Prabowo revoked licenses of 22 entities holding Forest Utilization Business Permits (PBPH) for natural forests and plantation forests.
The total area affected by the revocation reached 1,010,592 hectares.
In addition, licenses were also revoked for six companies operating in mining, plantations, and Timber Forest Product Utilization Business Permits (PBPHHK).
The decision signaled the government’s commitment to environmental protection, particularly in forest and conservation areas, through tighter regulation of natural resource-based businesses.
Satgas PKH Regains 4.09 Million Hectares
As a concrete step in enforcement, President Prabowo established Satgas PKH under Presidential Regulation No. 5/2025. The task force is mandated to conduct audits and intensive inspections to regulate activities in forestry, plantations, and mining sectors.
Within its first year, Satgas PKH reported regaining control over 4.09 million hectares of oil palm plantations located inside forest zones.
From that total, the government reportedly returned around 900,000 hectares into conservation forest areas to support environmental protection and global biodiversity.
One key restoration focus is the recovery of Tesso Nilo National Park, covering 81,793 hectares, as part of a broader ecosystem restoration strategy. (T2)
