InfoSAWIT, KUTAI KARTANEGARA — Koperasi Perkebunan Belayan Sejahtera has achieved a historic milestone in strengthening sustainability governance in the smallholder plantation sector by earning a ‘B’ rating from the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), a global non-profit organisation that manages the world’s most comprehensive environmental disclosure system.
The achievement makes Belayan Sejahtera the first cooperative in Indonesia to disclose environmental data globally through CDP, while also securing the highest score in the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) category. CDP assessments use an independent and rigorous methodology, evaluating transparency, environmental risk awareness, governance, and concrete actions in response to climate change and environmental degradation.
In 2025, nearly 20,000 organisations were assessed and more than 22,100 organisations reported environmental data through CDP. The data serve as a key reference for global investors and buyers in assessing risks, opportunities, and supply chain readiness for the transition to a low-emissions and deforestation-free economy.
Chairman of Belayan Sejahtera Cooperative, Jamaluddin, said the achievement reflects a shift in the position of smallholder cooperatives within the global supply chain.
“A ‘B’ rating from CDP is not merely an administrative recognition for us. It is a statement of intent. We are showing that farmer cooperatives—often positioned at the margins—are capable of meeting global environmental transparency standards that have long been dominated by large corporations,” he told InfoSAWIT on Friday (December 19, 2025).
