InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA — Director of PT Riset Perkebunan Nusantara (RPN), Iman Yani Harahap, emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration to strengthen the competitiveness and sustainability of the national plantation commodities. This was conveyed in the opening speech of the 2026 Plantation Commodities Outlook, monitored by InfoSAWIT, held on Tuesday (28/10/2025).
According to Iman, the plantation sector holds a strategic role in the national economy. Besides absorbing a lot of labor in rural areas, this sector is also a provider of important raw materials for he domestic downstream industry.
“We all know that plantations are the backbone of the agricultural subsector that contributes greatly, both to the domestic market and international,” he said.
In the forum, Iman mentioned that six main commodities will be discussed, namely palm oil, rubber, tea, coffee, cocoa, and sugarcane. These six commodities not only support the national economy, but also face major challenges from global dynamics such as climate change, price fluctuations, and demands for sustainable business practices.
“Through this forum, we hope to get a comprehensive picture of market trends, production potential, prices, as well as challenges and opportunities faced by the plantation sector going forward,” he explained.
Iman emphasized three main focuses in facing 2026. First, increasing productivity and efficiency through plant rejuvenation and the use of superior planting materials. Second, developing added value through promoting downstream and high-value processed products. Third, implementing sustainability principles, which include environmental and social aspects throughout the supply chain.
“With a spirit of collaboration and innovation, we believe Indonesia's plantations will become more inclusive and competitive, both at the national and global levels,” he said.
He also conveyed appreciation to all parties involved in organizing the event. “Hopefully this forum will become a basis for formulating more adaptive policies and business strategies to welcome 2026 with full optimism,” he concluded. (T2)
