InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA — The Indonesian government has issued a new regulation on Indonesia Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO), with the Ministry of Agriculture releasing Regulation No. 33/2025 on 21 November 2025. The policy replaces Regulation No. 38/2020.
Under Article 2, all plantation businesses — including companies and smallholders — are required to obtain ISPO certification. The updated ISPO framework introduces seven core principles covering legal compliance, good agricultural practices, environmental management, labor responsibility, social responsibility, transparency, and continuous improvement.
The regulation also clarifies dispute mechanisms (Article 42) and strengthens monitoring responsibilities across national and regional authorities (Article 64).
Certification costs remain the responsibility of operators (Article 67). However, the government will provide financial support options for smallholders applying for certification.
Article 80 states that certified smallholders will receive priority in accessing funds from the palm oil fund agency, particularly for human resource development, research, replanting, and infrastructure upgrades.
With the issuance of Regulation No. 33/2025, the previous regulation is officially revoked (Article 83), marking a new phase in Indonesia’s sustainable palm oil governance. (T2)
