InfoSAWIT, YOGYAKARTA — Higher education must adapt more quickly to technological disruption and evolving youth behavior, said Harsawardana, Rector of Instiper Yogyakarta, during the university’s 67th anniversary media gathering on Wednesday (26 November 2025).

He noted that today’s generation grows up with natural digital fluency. Students learn practical skills—from drone assembly and mapping to farm operations—directly from the internet.

Traditional teaching methods, he argued, are outdated. “Students no longer come to class to hear repeated theory. They come to verify and deepen what they have learned independently,” he said.

Toward Modular, Flexible, Adaptive Education

Harsawardana highlighted global trends where universities adopt digital and modular learning. Students can take short-skill modules, earn competence certificates, and return whenever they need more advanced skills.

Today's learners want faster pathways: “If a skill can be learned in a year, they don’t want to wait four years.”

Instiper is preparing a framework for modular and flexible learning, aligned with four national keywords: modular, flexible, adaptive, and platform-based.

Government regulations are also pushing this transformation. Instiper, he added, has been preparing for six years to align education with technological shifts such as digital plantations, drones, and data mapping.

“When the world changes, education must change. Our job is to prepare students for that world,” he concluded. (T2)
