InfoSAWIT, KUALA LUMPUR — The issue of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions from palm oil plantations continues to be a focus in global efforts to create an environmentally friendly palm oil industry. At the RSPO Annual Roundtable Conference on Sustainable Palm Oil (RT2025), the need for more accurate and transparent emission calculation emerged.
Ashton Lim, RSPO Manager, confirmed that the organization has prepared a more comprehensive calculation system through the GHG Calculator, a tool to precisely measure the emission footprint in the palm oil sector.
"GHG calculation can use the calculator method that has been prepared since 2024," said Ashton Lim.
He explained that careful calculation of GHG emissions is not only a reporting obligation but also an important basis for developing sustainable management strategies. He also revealed the great potential of palm oil waste management as a source of green energy, such as generating electricity from Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME). (T1)
