InfoSAWIT, KUALA LUMPUR — The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) continues to strengthen its organizational governance through the formation of an Executive Committee, expected to increase operational efficiency and expand support for members and stakeholders worldwide.
Co-Chair of the RSPO Board of Governors and President of Foresta Foods Corporation, Jose Roberto Montenegro, emphasized that this step is part of RSPO's commitment to continuous improvement in all organizational lines. “As a global organization, it is important for us to reflect and evaluate which areas in our operational system need to be strengthened,” said Montenegro quoted by InfoSAWIT from RSPO, Monday (3/1/2025). “Through the formation of this executive committee, we bring in the needed expertise to provide guidance for several key RSPO areas, including finance, digital transformation, and technology operations.”
Montenegro added that the formation of this committee will provide direct benefits to RSPO members and stakeholders, especially in ensuring the organization remains optimal amid its global expansion. “We anticipate increased operational efficiency and effectiveness by adopting a future-oriented governance model,” he said. This strategic step is also designed to strengthen support for palm oil farmers and upstream business actors, particularly in facilitating certification processes, expanding access to global markets, and promoting their inclusion in the sustainable palm oil supply chain.
“For farmers, improved operations and governance will help them get more support to obtain certification and participate in the sustainable supply chain,” explained Montenegro.
With these new initiatives, RSPO hopes to maintain its organizational resilience and ensure the effectiveness of its programs amid the changing dynamics of the industry. “This effort ensures RSPO remains resilient, effective, and able to meet the growing expectations of members and stakeholders worldwide,” concluded Montenegro.
This step shows that RSPO not only focuses on certification and sustainability standards, but also on strengthening institutional foundations to adapt to new challenges in the global palm oil sector. (T2)
