InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA — Director of Business for Nusantara Plantation Holding PTPN III (Persero), Ryanto Wisnuardhy, emphasized the importance of transforming the national plantation business paradigm from production-oriented to market-oriented. This was conveyed in a keynote speech at the 2026 Plantation Commodities Outlook event, held on Tuesday (October 28, 2025) and monitored by InfoSAWIT.
“I am very happy with the existence of this forum. Events like this become important considerations for us in formulating the Work Plan and Program (RKP) for 2026,” said Ryanto.
According to him, the applications and data developed in this Outlook forum greatly help in reading plantation commodity price trends. Understanding the direction of price movements will be an important basis in determining future business strategies.
“So far, we have still adopted a product-centric pattern — producing as much as possible, then offering it to the market. However, now is the time for us to shift to customer-centric, understanding what the market really wants and producing it according to needs,” stressed Ryanto.
He exemplified that several business units under the PTPN Group have shown positive results from this orientation change. For example, PTPN VIII through its Kayu Aro tea product, which is now profitable again after adjusting to market preferences.
Ryanto also mentioned the need for continuous innovation in the upstream sector. “We need to develop new plant varieties that are more suitable to current climate and soil conditions, because the natural conditions 30–40 years ago are clearly different from now,” he said.
In terms of business policy direction, the PTPN Group will increasingly focus on production, while marketing aspects will be managed by special entities under the same business group. This is expected to increase efficiency and clarify the division of roles among business units, including Rajawali I, Rajawali II, Mitra Ogan, and Mitra Kelinci, which handle various plantation commodities.
Furthermore, he revealed that PTPN is preparing strategic steps in the form of sugar factory clustering in several regions as part of efforts to restructure and strengthen the national sugar industry.
In addition to focusing on efficiency and market orientation, Ryanto also emphasized the importance of sustainability in all PTPN Group business lines. He highlighted the company's serious efforts in maintaining environmentally friendly and deforestation-free business practices.
“I am grateful that friends in the field are very progressive. Out of about 150 estates, most have obtained RSPO certification, and some have reached higher standards. Likewise on the processing side, out of 71 mills, about 68 have been RSPO certified,” he said.
Ryanto closed his speech with appreciation to all forum participants. “This event is very important to help us determine future strategies, including ensuring the sustainability of the national plantation business. Hopefully, this forum will benefit all stakeholders,” he concluded. (T2)
