InfoSAWIT, BEKASI – The Citra Widya Edukasi Palm Oil Polytechnic (Poltek CWE) continues to reinforce its role as a producer of superior human resources (HR) for the plantation industry. In a joint forum with the Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDP), the campus and foundation leadership emphasized the importance of preparing the younger generation to become the spearhead of the palm oil sector and other strategic commodities.

Poltek CWE Director Nugroho Kristono expressed his hope that students grasp the significance of the government scholarship program. "In the near future, in 20 years, these students will hold the leadership baton of Indonesian palm oil. Therefore, it is important for them to hear guidance directly from figures like Mrs. Evita Legowo from the BPDP Supervisory Board," he said while opening the Inaugural Lecture for new Poltek CWE students, attended by InfoSAWIT on Thursday (10/2/2025) in Bekasi.

Chairman of the CWE Foundation Board Major General (Ret.) Bimo Prakoso added that the need for plantation human resources does not end with palm oil. "We have been asked to prepare study programs for cocoa and coconut. With the support of stakeholders, we can develop these new programs. Plantation education is part of our dedication to the nation," he asserted.

Meanwhile, BPDP Director of Downstream Fund Disbursement Mohammad Alfansyah underscored that HR is the country’s long-term investment. "This year, 328 new students received palm oil scholarships. Poltek CWE has partnered with BPDP for eight years, graduating about 500 individuals who now work in the industry, with about 900 active students remaining. Going forward, we hope Poltek CWE can develop cocoa and coconut study programs," he explained.

According to Alfansyah, the scholarships are not just aid but a form of state investment toward Golden Indonesia 2045. "Five to ten years from now, these students must become the vanguard of plantations. Especially since we have the smallholder palm oil replanting (PSR) program. If the farmers aren't ready, Poltek CWE graduates can step in with innovation on the ground," he revealed.

He also stressed the importance of student mental development. "Plantations are vulnerable to social challenges, from the temptation of alcohol to theft of palm fruit by 'palm oil ninjas.' Students must be forged with strong character, leadership skills, and the ability to manage employees of different ages," he added.

In the industry context, he highlighted the role of biodiesel in maintaining the stability of FFB prices. "We must not depend on world CPO prices. The domestic market must be strengthened to realize farmer welfare and national economic independence," he concluded. (T2)
