InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) have once again proven their ability to penetrate the global market through the path of sustainability. The Laweyan Batik Village Development Forum (FPKBL) and SpaFactory Bali officially obtained the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) Supply Chain Certification (SCC). This achievement is a major milestone, demonstrating that local creativity can align with environmentally friendly international standards.
FPKBL, which previously developed a palm-based batik wax formula, has expanded its innovation into decorative and aromatherapy candles with support from Daemeter. These products debuted at Indonesia’s largest craft exhibition, INACRAFT 2025, held from October 1–5 in Jakarta. Meanwhile, SpaFactory Bali introduced its BOEMI Botanical personal care line, which has also secured RSPO SCC certification. The presence of these two MSMEs shows that sustainability not only originates in the upstream palm oil industry but can also be delivered directly to consumers.
Cross-sector collaboration was key to this success. WWF Indonesia and CECT Trisakti University mentored the certification process, while Control Union acted as the auditor. "Thank you to all parties for their support. This commitment proves that creativity can go hand-in-hand with sustainability. Batik MSMEs like ours can finally expand access to the international market," said Alpha Febela Priyatmoko, Chairman of FPKBL, at the Craft Talks event attended by InfoSAWIT on Wednesday (10/1/2025).
Support also came from the RSPO. Dr. M Windrawan Inantha, RSPO Deputy Director of Market Transformation Indonesia, called this achievement an important start for increasing the consumption of sustainable palm oil products domestically. "This is not only for smallholders upstream but also for MSMEs downstream. With 'sustainability meets creativity,' we open the door for a sustainable supply chain that is truly connected from upstream to downstream," he explained.
The historic moment was marked by the presentation of the RSPO SCC certificates during the "Sustainability Meets Creativity" Craft Talk session at INACRAFT 2025. Managing Director of Control Union Indonesia, Gayan Wejesiriwardana, affirmed, "Certification for MSMEs proves that sustainability standards are accessible to small businesses. Local creativity can now be aligned with global standards, while also strengthening consumer trust."
The achievements of FPKBL and SpaFactory Bali are expected to have a broader impact on the national creative and tourism industries. From batik wax to personal care, sustainable palm oil-based products now offer not only aesthetic value but also a new attraction for tourists and global consumers. This innovation proves that everyday products can serve as educational tools and tangible symbols of a commitment to a more sustainable future. (T2)
