InfoSAWIT, KOTAWARINGIN – Following the successful instillation of self-reliance through its Empowered Village School (Sekolah Desa Berdaya) program in Nanga Tayap, West Kalimantan, Bumitama is now expanding its efforts to Central Kalimantan. The Kotawaringin region is the next location chosen to develop this cross-sectoral village empowerment model.

The program was officially introduced to 29 participants from various regions in Central Kalimantan. Similar to the approach in West Kalimantan, the model focuses on five key clusters: agriculture, fisheries, horticulture, livestock, and MSMEs.

In an official statement quoted by InfoSAWIT on Sunday (9/28/2025), the success in West Kalimantan serves as a strong foundation for this expansion. By mid-2025, 310 participants had been trained across various clusters. Each cluster is not merely a commercial space but also an arena for learning and collaboration. There, villagers hone their skills, increase their knowledge, and foster a spirit of independence. The impact is tangible: village economies are strengthening, and the direction of development is becoming more sustainable.

The soft launch in Kotawaringin was more than just a ceremonial opening; it was an immediate step into field action. After the program introduction, participants, along with facilitators and local government representatives, proceeded to a prepared plot of land. There, a corn planting activity was held, symbolizing the start of this new journey.

Corn was chosen for a significant reason: this strategic commodity aligns with efforts to achieve food self-sufficiency and strengthen national resilience. Thus, Bumitama's initiative not only builds the capacity of rural communities but also integrates with Indonesia's broader food sovereignty strategy. (T2)
