InfoSAWIT, BEIJING — Chinese customs data shows that soybean imports in August 2025 reached an all-time high for the month. Meanwhile, imports of copper concentrate also increased for the second consecutive month, indicating solid domestic demand.
However, the growth rate of China's exports has slowed. Exports in August rose by 4.4% year-on-year, which was lower than the 5% increase expected in a Reuters poll. This also marks the weakest export growth in the last six months.
According to Business Record on Tuesday (9/9/2025), this performance was also lower than July's, which saw a 7.2% growth that surpassed market expectations.
The slowdown in exports was largely driven by a decrease in shipments to the United States, as the temporary effects of the tariff truce between Beijing and Washington began to fade. This situation strengthens calls for the Chinese government to prepare additional fiscal stimulus measures in the fourth quarter of 2025 to maintain economic momentum. (T2)
