MPOB Launches Red Palm Oil Fertilizer and Biscuit, Promoting Commercialization of Palm Oil Research

InfoSAWIT, BANGI — The Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) has made significant strides in commercializing the results of national palm oil research. During a recent launch event, the Minister of Plantation and Commodities, Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, inaugurated two of MPOB's latest innovations: the MPOB F6 fertilizer formulation and health biscuits made from red palm oil.

This launch not only marks a scientific advancement but also strengthens MPOB's position as a research institution actively promoting value addition and sustainability in Malaysia's palm oil sector.

The MPOB F6 fertilizer formulation has been specifically developed with essential nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and magnesium. This composition is designed to maintain soil fertility in the long term, in line with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) sustainability principles.

“This formulation is not just an ordinary fertilizer. It is the result of in-depth research to ensure that our palm oil farming practices remain environmentally friendly and sustainable,” Johari stated, as quoted by InfoSAWIT from My Metro on Saturday (June 28, 2025).

In addition to the fertilizer, MPOB also launched a food product in the form of biscuits enriched with red palm oil. These biscuits contain provitamin A carotenoids and natural phytonutrients, making them a beneficial supplement for preventing vitamin A deficiency and maintaining nutritional balance.

“These biscuits are an example of how palm oil research can address public health challenges,” Johari added.

According to Johari, both products are part of over 240 technologies and innovations that MPOB has developed and commercialized, creating a market value of more than RM5.9 billion to date. He emphasized that such technology transfer can drive operational efficiency and add value throughout the national palm oil supply chain.

This launch initiative is part of the MPOB 2025 Technology Transfer Program (TOT). In this program, MPOB also introduced several other technologies and innovations, including the MPOB-Eg50 community platform for palm oil genetic studies, an integrated Ganoderma pest management system, and a ripeness detection technology for palm fruit through the IMBAS system.

Additionally, MPOB showcased several palm oil-based products ready for market entry, such as food-grade hydraulic oil, bath products, environmentally friendly cleaning emulsions for the oil and gas industry, NutrEcare emulsion drinks, chocolate spreads, candies, vegan mayonnaise, and chicken feed formulations.

MPOB's efforts demonstrate that research and innovation do not end in laboratories but can become a real economic force for the palm oil industry. With a continued focus on commercialization strategies, Malaysia is reinforcing its position as a key player in the global palm oil market—not only in terms of volume but also in innovation, sustainability, and value addition.
