Collaboration Between UI and Agrinas: A Concrete Step Towards Sustainable Innovation in Plantation Development

InfoSAWIT, DEPOK – Universitas Indonesia (UI) is actively promoting synergy between the education sector and industry through a strategic collaboration with PT Agrinas Palma Nusantara (Persero). This commitment was formalized with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Plaza Building, 2nd Floor, Fel Fest UI, Depok, last Friday.

The signing was conducted by UI Rector, Prof. Heri Hermansyah, and the President Director of PT Agrinas Palma Nusantara (Persero), Lieutenant General (Ret.) Agus Sutomo. The collaboration aims to strengthen the development of education, research, and community service, particularly in the agro-industry sector and sustainable natural resource management.

"This partnership represents a tangible step in bridging the gap between industry needs and scientific development, especially in addressing the challenges of future plantation sector development," said Prof. Heri in his remarks.

The event was also attended by several strategic figures from Agrinas, including Commissioner R. Wisnoe Prasetja Boedi, Director of Business and Industry Development Prof. Edi Slamet Irianto, and Executive Vice President of Corporate Secretary & ESG, Okky Suryono. Their presence underscores the importance of cross-sector synergy in driving innovation-based economic growth.

According to Agus Sutomo, the collaboration with UI opens significant opportunities for enhancing institutional capacity and human resources in the national plantation sector. "We hope this marks the beginning of a partnership that produces concrete solutions for resilient and sustainable national agro-industry development," he emphasized, as quoted by InfoSAWIT from Agrinas' official website on Monday (June 23, 2025).

This memorandum also signifies the initial step in developing various strategic programs, including applied research, agricultural technology development, and community empowerment based on research outcomes. It is expected that this collaboration will foster innovations and technologies that can enhance Indonesia's competitiveness in the global plantation sector.

In addition to Agrinas, Universitas Indonesia also signed several agreements with various state-owned enterprises and major companies, such as Paragon, BNI, and BTN. This demonstrates UI's commitment to building a robust partnership ecosystem between academia and the business world.

With increasingly close cross-sector collaboration, Universitas Indonesia reaffirms its position as a proactive higher education institution addressing national development challenges through collaborative and solution-oriented approaches. (T2)
