Legal Areas: The Main Issue in Indonesia’s Palm Oil Governance

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA - Palm oil industries have become the backbones of economy in Indonesia. But as they develop, many challenges are ahead to improve the governance. One big issue to immediately be solved is area legal particularly belonging to corporates and smallholders.

Director of Plantation Product Marketing and Process, General Directorate of Plantation, Ministry of Agriculture, Prayudi Syamsuri has done the best to improve the governance by publishing new regulations in association with palm oil plantations.

It covers that every planter should get self-report through Sistem Informasi Perizinan Perkebunan (Siperibun), the smallholders should put data on their plantations to get cultivation documents. “Besides the two, low plantation productivity, and fresh fruit bunch (FFB) price are the issues to be solved,” Prayudi recently said to InfoSAWIT.

He continued the government should also develop palm oil plantations that are in coordination needs among the central and regional governments holistically. It is very significant to get plantation data to improve these industries.
