InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA - The government of Indonesia has launched the Rencana Aksi Nasional Kelapa Sawit Berkelanjutan (RAN KSB) or Sustainable Palm Oil National Action Plans. It is said that in this year, there would be the blue print of RAN KSB to realize the productivity in 2024.
It was arranged based on multi-side participatory mechanism. Every actor is involved in the multi-stakeholder forum. This is the initiative to arrange the policy published by the government of Indonesia and other countries could imitate by involving others transparently and democratically.
The plans are also the collective action to change and improve the commitment of sustainability through the approach system to adopt the massive sustainable practices in palm oil industries.
RAN KSB covers five important components, they are, data affirmation; coordination and infrastructure; smallholders’ capacity enhancement; environmental management and monitoring; the conflict governance and resolution; and encouragement to accelerate ISPO certification and market access.
The big potentials of the plans are to cover the gaps between the best and the worst practices in sustainable standards; to give help and access to technical and systemic support to increase the capacity; and to adopt the good agricultural practice by focusing to increase the productivity result rather than area expansion.
RAN KSB also gives space to make consultation, share experience and reconciliation of opposite interest, and also the controversial issues, and the concern of European Union that could be solved by making intensive dialogue. It is about to admit the struggle that the companies, the suppliers, and the smallholders face and the commitment to solve the issues. The idea is to increase the potentials nationally in social and environmental sustainability. (Writer: Edi Suhardi/ Palm oil plantation practitioner in Indonesia.)
