The Palm Oil Challenges from European Union

The Palm Oil Challenges from European Union

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – The discriminatory to palm oil happens for the European Union Commission adopted the Renewable Energy Directive (RED) II on 13 March 2019. The policy was about the deletion claim to biodiesel usage in palm oil – base for it may be high risk to the deforestation.

Actually not only deforestation comes up from the palm oil plantation activity but also about the human rights violation, corruption, and the children abuse to work.

Everything mentioned above is the challenge that the growers should face. In addition in 2017, the palm oil exports from Indonesia succeeded to get US$ 2,97 billion and these were the history in palm oil plantation in Indonesia. European Union was one continent within increasing demands on crude palm oil from Indonesia reaching about 27%.

The facts also showed that the palm oil needs in the world keep increasing as same as the way to postpone palm oil market development in the world. That is why palm oil industries should increase the cooperation with every stakeholder and keep running the sustainable practices to have social and environmental products.
