Change the Cultivation in Colonialism Era to be Sustainable One

InfoSAWIT, BANDA ACEH – Palm oil plantation development in Indonesia has been running for more than one century. Its development for the first time was in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD) and North Sumatera.

Unfortunately in the last one decade, according to Director of Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) Indonesia, Tiur Rumondang, its development is negatively accused by other countries. So it needs understanding about the cultivation and development based on the social and environmental aspects.

“Sustainability is the same key to palm oil development in the future,” she said in the spare time of public lecture in Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Syiah Kuala (Unsyiah) Aceh within the theme “Indusri Sawit Berkelanutan dan Sertifkasi”, Thursday (14/2/2019).

She continued that it needs to have good and same understanding about sustainability not only for the companies and the workers but also for the students in many universities.

Of course by having the same understanding, it would be easier to improve the palm oil plantations to have the same perspective in the socil and environment.

“As the young generations, the students should also inform to the society that it is important to be in harmony among the social, palm oil plantations, and the environment,” she said. (T1)
