Wilmar Cooperates with Aid environment to Realize the Free Deforestation

InfoSAWIT, KUALA LUMPUR –After getting protests from environment non-government organization (NGO), Greenpeace, Wilmar International Limited (Wilmar) finally announced the Statement with Aidenvironment and supported consumption goods – companies. The details of the Statement are about the supervision program and the involvement of new suppliers of Wilmar to accelerate free deforestation palm oil industry.

The programs are developed to increase the effective No Deforestation, Peat, and Exploitation (NDPE) policy and to provide the remediation to those that cut the woods in the old days done by the third suppliers. Wilmar would support Aidenvironmentto develop the mapping data from the crude palm oil (CPO) suppliers comprehensively within the last program of Supplier Groups that may monitor every supplier when developing their areas to Wilmar.

Chief Sustainability Officer, Wilmar, Jeremy Goon explained that his company is committed to the NDPE policy and the new plan to increase is part of the sustainable strategy to be free deforestation and conflict in the supply chain.

But Jeremy realized that everything done to realize sustainable goals unintentionally makes negative impact to the smallholders. “The most important thing is that we have to make sure that by increasing the higher standard, we would not contribute to the unsustainable CPO markets which is known as the ‘leak of the ‘leak of the market’. So we prioritized that everyone is important to guide and develop the smallholders and our suppliers to obey the NDPE policy,” he said in the official statement to InfoSAWIT, Monday (10/12/2018).

Meanwhile, the Founder ofAidenvironment Asia, Eric Wakker said, in the CPO chain of supply, the company would get better visibility to the plantation companies that they got from their operational, namely to the NDPE policy obedience.

“This may make the company to act faster to the suppliers that may be involved in deforestation and peat development,” Eric Wakker said.(T2)
