Agri Commodity Needs The People’s Enterprises

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA —The concept of The People’s Enterprises could be the right system to manage the natural resources in agriculture and plantation in Indonesia professionally.

Chairman World Islamic Economic Forum SME Initiative, Tanri Abeng  said, the People’s Enterprises could consist of the land owner of plantation and agriculture in a corporate.

“In Malaysia, it has been running since 1959. It is Felda in palm oil sector. Until now, Felda is the biggest one in the world. It is in the same concept. Indonesia has bigger potential for the people’s plantation in  rubber reached 94%, 6% are big plantations. But they are not organized well,” he said in Jakarta, as recently quoted from Bisnis.com.

He continued, the smallholders would not be as workers but as the owners of the company. It would be big potential in palm oil plantation sector. The people’s plantations reach 41% compared to the big companies’ areas, reaching 51%.

Within the bigger potential, the government should facilitate the making of better management structure in the smallholders’ level because the union system does not run well. If the people’s company is made, the credits from the banks would be easier to get.

Now, he continued, there is only one People’s Enterprise in food sector in Sukabumi. It needs three elements to make it, such as, the first, union structure, then, the management system, and the last, the skillful human resources. (T3)
