InfoSAWIT, PALANGKARAYA -This (Salat Island) is the pre -release island. In the long period, this will be the sanctuary for orangutan which could not be released for it may be injured when being captured or the illegal cure.

Many orangutans get out of their habitat in the forest because of conservations. The forest conservation is done not only because of palm oil industries but also the mining and other sectors in land-base. When the forest has been conserved, orangutan will go out.

“We from Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOSF) does at the edge, that is, to protect and rehabilitate orangutan. But we are not proud of having the biggest rehabilitation center because the rehabilitation and conservation of orangutan should not happen again. If the rehabilitation happens, the forest damage occurs too,” CEO BOSF, JamartinSihite recently said.

He continued, his side doesprotection for orangutan which was the pet for man. Unfortunately when being pets for human, orangutans were educated to be man, not orangutan.

So his side teaches orangutan to survive in the wild. They should know how to climb, know the enemy or how to get the woof. It takes some time to be back as orangutan. So we make ‘SekolahHutan’ and we pre-release them. It spends 6 to 7 years.

Unfortunately when more orangutan enter rehabilitation process, the area release gets narrower. “If there is no solution, this will raise new issue,” he said.

For this reason, we initiate to make new pre-release in Salat Island and we take PT SSMS, Tbk., to cooperate as part of the solution. The company wants to be our partner.  (T2)
