RSPO Met 100 Planters in North Sumatera

InfoSAWIT, MEDAN - Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) met about 100 planters in North Sumatera through one day seminar, called, ‘Memperkuat Keberlanjutan Rantai Pasok Kelapa Sawit di Indonesia’ or Empowering the Sustainable Chain of Palm oil Supply in Indonesia.

The participants of the seminar were the representatives of palm oil plantation companies, smallholders, traders, factories, the government, academists, and non – government organizations.

“By this seminar, we want to ask the planters in North Sumatera to discuss about the chance and advantage in sustainable palm oil industries and ask them to be active in producing sustainable palm oil,” Director of RSPO Indonesia, Tiur Rumondang recently said in the seminar, as quoted from Bisnis.com.

She also said, every side should realize that it is important and strategic to maintain the sustainability of palm oil in Indonesia to keep its existence in the global market as the biggest CPO producer having RSPO certificate.

Besides the sustainable production could increase the productivity and make more market access for the smallholders and the planters.

It could ensure that the rights of the workers and the people around the areas could be fulfilled and could maintain the long term supply from the commodity which contributes to the economic development in Indonesia.

She continued, North Sumatera has contributed about 20% of the total sustainable palm oil production having RSPO certificate in this country.

The Certified Sustainable Palm Oil (CSPO) in North Sumatera by the end of June 2017 reached 1,3 million metric tons of the total CSPO in Indonesia reaching 6,53 million metric tons. (T3)
