InfoSAWIT, NIKARAGUA – 22 thousand hectares have been prepared to plant palm oil in Nicaragua within about US$ 150 million of investment. The numbers would be used to nurse the available plantation which would be developed in the next years. The areas could produce 70 thousand tons of crude palm oil (CPO) which would be used to fulfill the domestic needs and the exports.
As quoted from qcostarica.com, in 2016, the income from the CPO selling reached US$ 33 million or increased 13% compared to 2015. Manager of Copropalma (the palm oil processor and producer association of Nicaragua), Marlon Perez Miranda said, in 2017 Nicaragua would export 30 thousand tons of CPO.
Meanwhile, based on the National Trade, Consumption and Production Plan, the CPO consumption in the country is still influenced by the weather and the plantation cycle. For example, in 2016/2017, Nicaragua would produce 70 to 74 thousand tons of CPO. The numbers are not produced by about 9.200 hectares of palm oil which are about to develop. (T2)
