Member of Indonesian Legislators: Investigate Slavery Assumption in PT Bintang Sawit Lestari

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – Member of Commission IX Indonesian Legislators from Partai Keadilan Sejahtera (PKS), Netty Prasetiyani firmly urged Indonesian Police to investigate slavery assumption in palm oil plantation company, PT Bintang Sawit Lestari (BSL) in West Kalimantan. As in the official statement to InfoSAWIT, Friday (24/11), she told that it is important to get transparent investigation, make sure that every suspect would be punished because what they did, violated human rights.

Prior five palm oil plantation workers in PT Bintang Sawit Lestari (BSL) in Sub district of Sekadau Hulu, West Kalimantan Province were put in a room, tortured by their fellows. They escaped from the plantations after having bad treatment, such as, salary which was not fully paid. Head of Investigation and Crime Sekadau Police, Iptu Rahmad Kartono confirmed that the seven workers in the plantations were arrested and decided as the suspects in the case.

Netty Prasetiyani mentioned that Indonesian Police should investigate ever party involved, such as, the possibility that the case was from the management. She also mentioned that every perpetuator – without knowing what his position (in the company) should be legally investigated. Vice Chairman of Fraksi Partai Keadilan Sejahtera Indonesian Legislators also reminded that Ministry of Labor should actively involve in protecting the workers’ rights.

“The country should involve in every industrial connection happening. Do not let the people fight for themselves to earn their living,” she said.

She continued, Ministry of Labor should take part to solve the case and develop every victim to make sure that they would get their rights, namely if it is proven that their salary was not fully paid.

Netty Prasetiyani thought, Ministry of Labor should serve the justice and involve the country to protect the workers. It is hoped that the slavery assumption investigation in PT Bintang Sawit Lestari would transparently run fair, deliver justice for everybody. (T2)
