To Solve Climate Change Issues, Indonesia - Netherlands Did RECSIN

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resource (EMR) Indonesian Republic and Netherland Embassy has got Renewable Energy and Climate Summit Indonesia-Netherlands (RECSIN) in Hotel Ritz Carlton Jakarta from 9 to 13 October 2023.

It was attended by the representatives of the two governments, business, universities, and institutions to discuss about climate change and got solution through renewable energy.

In his speech, Minister EMR, Arifin Tasrif was sorry for the escalating temperature and sea surface in Indonesia. He thought, these happen for the climate change that causes extreme weather in the world, and decreasing land surface in the coast because of the increasing sea water. To fact the issues, the Government of Indonesia designed energy transition road map heading to net zero emission (NZE) in 2060 or sooner. One thing to do is by developing new renewable energy, such as, energy from sun, water, and geothermal.

Arifin thought that the government also prioritizes decarbonization program, developing new renewable energy projects within more interesting tariff, trade and carbon exchange in power plan sector, and conversion of diesel powerplant to be gas and new renewable energy.

“The government would also implement biomass cofiring in steam powerplant, funding for geothermal drill, palm oil biodiesel 35 percent, and vehicle conversion to be electric one,” he said, as in the official statement to InfoSAWIT, Tuesday (10/10/2023).

Arifin also emphasized that it is important to get mineral resource (advantages) to solve climate change issus. Indonesia has massive mineral resource – backup, particularly nickel that could be used as battery material and energy safe. Besides, land element is rarely taken for advantages as the wind turbine, solar panel, and electric vehicle component.

He hoped that through RESCIN, there would be better collaboration between the two countries. He believed that the cooperation would accelerate energy transition, help to realize NZE target in Indonesia. By focusing to new renewable energy and mineral resource optimization, Indonesia is the right tract to face climate challenge issue and would create the better and sustainable future for the next generations.
