Holding Perkebunan Nusantara: Target to Produce 1,8 Million Tons Palm Cooking Oil and Ethanol

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – As the government’s company, PT Perkebunan Nusantara (PTPN) III or Holding Perkebunan Nusantara decided to escalate its performance in energy and food sectors. The main focuses to increase are palm oil and sugarcane,

PTPN also joins to help national priority programs, such as, downstream and food self-sufficiency. The company would have crude palm oil (CPO) downstream industry to produce olein. Olein itself is the fractionation of CPO which is used to produce palm cooking oil.

As InfoSAWIT quoted from Blak-blakan detikcom, Director of PTPN III (Persero) Mohammad Abdul Ghani said that his company is committed to produce olein (palm cooking oil) for the next five years that would reach up to 1,8 million tons or 40% of the total needs nationally.

In the restructurisation program, the company put national strategic program (NSP), one of it is that in the next five years, CPO that was sold in CPO only would be sold in the form to be olein.

“In five years, 1,8 million tons of olein. The numbers would be enough to fulfill 40% of the needs nationally but we are still developing. It would be complete in five years,” he said.

In energy sector, PTPN Group through PT Energi Agro Nusantara would produce environmental bioethanol. It is vegetable fuel that is mixed between conventional fuel with vegetable ethanol that derived from sugarcane molasses that PTPN Group produced. The unique is that bio-ethanol material is from sugarcane.

“When sugarcane is produced to be sap, and sugar, if 100 tons of sugarcane to produce, it means, there would be 7 to 9 (tons) of sugar but we are still having 5 to 6 (tons). But the rests (drops) would be 4 to 6 tons per hectare. From 4 kilograms of the drops could be producing 1 liter of ethanol. That is traditional ways – sugarcane, sap, sugar, drop, and ethanol,” he said.

In the early of June, PTPN Group and PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resource through General Directorate of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conversion, Balai Besar Pengujian Migas (LEMIGAS) did road test of bioethanol in Surabaya, East Java Province, precisely on 6 June 2023. The test was using Toyota Kijang Innova Reborn matic in line 16 Valve DOHC dual VVT-i (137 Ps @5600RPM) with the distance 500 km/day. (T2)
