InfoSAWIT, MERAUKE – The people of Papua need palm oil plantation to realize the better economy. In addition, this is the main focus of the district, palm oil plantation company, Catholic church, academy, social and environmental activist. The people of Papua namely in South Papua Province are in many remote areas.

Bishop Secretary of Merauke Archdiocese, Pastor Jhon Kandam said, the people of Papua depend on the nature around, such as, hunting, catching fish, and plantation. But their lives are far from the better economy because of lack of education and equal knowledge.

Life education for the people of Papua is very significant to be better and developed in the future. Though their income from hunting, catching fish and plantation could fulfill what they need, some still live in limited economy.

Pastor Jhon also focused the different treatment for those who do plantation cultivation in Papua. They who plant rubber should sell their production cheaper to the rubber middlemen. He hoped there would be improvement and other commodities to plant to escalate their income.

Pastor Hengky Pr., said the same. The people of Papua need education and knowledge in palm oil cultivation. They have areas where they can cultivate (other commodities) to be the profitable source of economy.

Social campaigner also told that the people of Papua could escalate their welfare by implementing sustainable palm oil plantation practices. That is why they have to maintain the environment ecosystem by having activity that delivers outcome for their life.

By implementing palm oil cultivation sustainably, the people of Papua would be better and the environment would remain conserved. It is important for the people of Papua to have source of economy that could take welfare and maintain the environment preserved.  (T1)
