InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – Chairman of Serikat Petani Kelapa Sawit (SPKS), Sabarudin said that the implementation of jurisdiction certification could be the solution to minimize the costs of certification process for the smallholders. The initiative could also help them, namely in finance, to get Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) certificate.

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA - Herdrajat Natawijaya, Secretariat Head of Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) Commission said that since 2025, every palm oil planter both the smallholders and stakeholders should have ISPO certificate. This would be about to accelerate sustainable palm oil practices in Indonesia.

Until now, ISPO certification realization is far from the target. Of the total palm oil plantations in Indonesia that laid on about 16,38 million hectares, only 5,84 million hectares or 35,6% got certified with the new certification about 1.077.

He thought, even though palm oil production in Indonesia once got decreased to 2023, the better climate in 2024 could indicate that the production would remain stable. Meanwhile, palm oil production in Malaysia could be better than it in the previous expectation that could be reaching 19,7 million metric tons.

The article written by Adi Renaldi, a correspondent in Southeast Asia for Thomson Reuters Foundation, was taken to deliver unfair opinion and would potentially damage palm oil industries’ images in Indonesia. The article discussed about environmental, climate changes, and forest cut issues that related to palm oil industries but were bias and did not reflect the field realities.

It referred to the announcement Number Peng-2/DPKS.4/2024.
