InfoSAWIT, BANDARLAMPUNG – The Lampung Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine Agency thwarted the shipment of 5,250 illegal oil palm seeds intended for inter-regional delivery via Radin Inten II Airport.
Head of the Lampung Quarantine Agency, Donni Muksydayan, said the interception resulted from joint monitoring by quarantine officers and Aviation Security (Avsec) personnel.
The seeds were detected during X-ray cargo scanning. Packages labeled as “parcels” contained oil palm seeds from South Lampung, Metro, and Bandarlampung destined for Central and East Kalimantan.
According to Donni, seeds are categorized as high-risk commodities because they can carry plant pests and diseases. All shipments lacked mandatory inter-area plant quarantine certificates, violating Law No. 21/2019 on Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine.
“We will not tolerate undocumented shipments. Seeds are high-risk commodities that may spread plant pests and diseases,” he emphasized.
The agency warned business actors against disguising regulated plant materials as general parcels, stressing that violations may lead to sanctions under prevailing law. (T2)
