InfoSAWIT, LAHORE – Pakistan’s flour milling and edible oil industries have officially launched a Ramadan relief package following an agreement with the Punjab provincial government, ensuring subsidized supplies of flour, cooking oil, and ghee with guaranteed quality throughout the holy month.
The Pakistan Flour Mills Association (PFMA), together with representatives of the vegetable oil and ghee industry, pledged to maintain price stability and adequate supply of essential food items amid the seasonal surge in demand during Ramadan.
According to brecorder.com, as published online by InfoSAWIT, Monday (February 16, 2026), under the agreed scheme, 10-kilogram flour bags will be sold at Rs 850 at 64 Sahulat Bazaar and Ramadan Sahulat Bazaar locations across Punjab.
In addition, flour mills will set up 1,550 dedicated sales points. At these outlets, 10-kg flour packs will be priced at Rs 905, while 20-kg packs will be sold at Rs 1,810.
PFMA assured that routine flour supplies to retail stores across the province would continue uninterrupted to prevent shortages and maintain market stability during the peak consumption period.
In a joint statement, PFMA Group Leader Asim Raza Ahmed and Punjab Chairman Riazullah Khan said the association stands “shoulder to shoulder” with the provincial government to provide maximum relief to consumers during Ramadan.
Cooking Oil and Ghee Discounts of Up to Rs 16 per Kg/Litre
Meanwhile, representatives of the cooking oil and ghee industry agreed to offer discounts ranging from Rs 10 to Rs 16 per kilogram or litre on all products during Ramadan.
At a high-level meeting attended by Punjab government Special Assistant Salma Butt, Director General of the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) Asim Javed, and industry representatives, it was agreed that quality-assured oil and ghee products would be available at discounted prices across Punjab markets.
Salma Butt said the policy aligns with the directives of Punjab’s Chief Minister to ensure that consumers have access to quality food products at affordable prices. She added that if global palm oil prices decline further, the industry is prepared to extend additional price relief in coordination with relevant authorities.
The PFA also invited industry feedback to enhance quality standards. DG PFA Asim Javed noted that modern and efficient methods are available to reduce trans-fatty acid levels, while testing procedures and quality benchmarks continue to be updated in line with international standards.
The authority emphasized it would take strict action against the distribution of substandard ghee. Industry players, in turn, welcomed regulatory enforcement measures, including the implementation of international standard operating procedures (SOPs) at ghee and cooking oil factories in Punjab.
Ghee Mills Association Chairman Asjad Arif affirmed that the industry would ensure adequate supplies of quality products throughout Ramadan and support efforts to combat adulteration and counterfeit practices in the market.
Both government and industry stakeholders expressed confidence that close coordination between regulators and producers would help maintain price stability and ensure smooth distribution of essential food commodities during the holy month of Ramadan. (T2)
