InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – Based on the theme of Indonesian Independence day 2019, SDM Unggul Indonesia Maju, it is the important thing to increase the human resources HR). So the education is one thing to increase the HR formally. It is hoped that by the eduction, there would be reliable leaders from the next generations.

To realize that, one palm oil plantation company, Bumitama Gunajaya Agro (BGA) Group, through the developed school program tries its best to increase the quality of the HR by increasing the quality of education in the school around the company.

To increase the quality of the education of the villagers around the palm oil plantations and to succeed the whole education, Yayasan Bumitama takes part to develop Sekolah Dasar Negeri (SDN) in Sub district of Kotawaringin Lama, Central Kalimantan and Sub district of Kendawangan, West Kalimantan. The development is about to make the schools as sekolah adiwiyata.

The program is the form of corporate social responsibility (CSR) of to the external school around its operational besides the direct development to the schools in the complex of BGA Group.

The goal is to go forward together to increase the quality of education. The program started in 2017 and it is one program that BGA Group runs to stabilize the social around the plantations.

In SDN which is next to the company in Central Kalimantan, there are lots of programs to increase the quality of the education. PT BGB (region 5B), Yayasan Bumitama started developing the students in 2017. Though the CSR of PT BGP ever since it operated has developed the people, but this time, it is focused to the Program Adiwiyata through Yayasan Bumitama.

In the official statement to InfoSAWIT recently, Sekolah Bumitama is the one school having the predicate as the Sekolah Adiwiyata in Sub district of Kotawaringin Lama, and SDS Bumitama should take other schools to have the same predicate. SD Negeri in Kotawaringin Lama which are pointed as the feedback schools from SDS Bumitama, are SD N 1 Sukajaya dan SD N 1 Kotawaringin Hulu. These schools are enthusiastic to join the program and ready to fulfill the criteria.

The first step in the program is to map the schools (choosing the pointed ones), coordinate with the local head of branch of education agency to the development program plans, and the last is making and signing the memorandum of understanding (MoU).

In West Kalimantan, the external developed schools which run are in the process standards by giving the teachers from Yayasan Bumitama to help the learning process. Days before the CSR program in West Kalimantan run since 2010 but to be more effective, it is done by Yayasan Bumitama.

The success (of the program) starts in SDN 35 Karat, SDN 16 Kendawangan, and SMPN 11 Kendawangan, which is, the decreasing students who do not go to school. The learning process runs well namely in SDN 16 Kendawangan, the teachers are from Yayasan Bumitama.

The challenges that Yayasan Bumitama faces in the future is how to be empathy to the environment by making the simple regular activity. One thing for example is not throwing the garbage wherever it is. This is not easy to do. The other is that how to make someone smile, greet, say ‘hi’ to everyone he meets is not easy to do. The teachers should be diligent to give examples every time when the students come. This is not only to educate the  students by also educate the educators (the teachers who are not used to do). (T2)
