FSC: Korindo Did Not Burn the Forests

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – The Forest Steward Council (FSC) on Tuesday (23/7/2019) released the investigation result that had been running since 1 November 2017. FSC Board of Directors concluded that Korindo Group proved not to burn the forests and did not involve in the other illegal activity using fire to its area clearance just like the Mighty Earth accused. Based on that, FSC decided that Korindo Group is still its member.

The investigation was done by Policy for Association (PfA) FSC about the report published by Mighty Earth in the end of 2016 by accusing that Korindo Group burned the forests. The American non-government organization forced FSC to put Korindo Group out of its membership.

In the official statement from FSC in Bonn, German, it is mentioned that besides being proved not to burn the forests, Korindo Group runs its activity by obeying the regulations in Indonesia. But in some cases the regulations of FSC are stricter than those in Indonesia.

The decision of FSC is welcome by Korindo Group. “Korindo Group always has good will to collaborate and cooperate constructively, not only with FSC but also with the other stakeholders to implement the right actions,” Public Relations Manager Korindo Group, Yulian Mohammad Riza said in the official statement to InfoSAWIT recently in Jakarta.

Besides, Korindo Group also agreed to continue the moratorium that has been running since 21 February 2017. The moratorium covers to postpone the conservation areas in the forests, until the assessment to high conservation value, and high conservation stock are fully done. (T2)
