InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – The environmental energy development keeps developing in Indonesia namely in palm oil – base.
In the previous years the mixture of palm oil biodiesel (FAME) to fossil fuel about 20% or famously known as B20 was successful. The biodiesel production in 2018 reached 6,167 million kiloliters (kl) and well absorbed. For the domestic usage reached 3,750 million kl and for the exports reached about 1,785 million kl.
Daily Chairman of Asosiasi Produsen Biofuel Indonesia (Aprobi), Paulus Tjakrawan said that the palm oil biodiesel development in 2018 decreased the emission release. The green-house gas emission is believed to be less than it from fossil fuel, and decreases pollution.
In 2018, Paulus continued that palm oil biodiesel from Indonesia decreased the diesel emission reaching about 27% or equal to ~10,58 million tons of CO2. “Palm oil biodiesel is environmental and it is the hope to decrease the fossil fuel dependence,” he said, Monday (22/7/2019) in Jakarta.
The emission reduction is the same with what the government targeted in Nationally Determined Contributions UNFCCC about 26% in 2020 and 29% in 2030.
Unfortunately the target of emission reduction in 2020 may be forgotten though it is ahead. It may happen for the policy makers pay attention to the emission reduction in 2030 for it is longer.
If the commitment of emission reduction is in the same target, the biodiesel absorption could run well. Since June 2019 the road test of biodiesel mixture to fossil fuel about 30% runs. It is said that the cold test is running. It means that the mixture of biodiesel would run in cold weather and would be in Dieng, Central Java province.
Besides decreasing the emission, palm oil biodiesel is the hope to release the fuel import dependence that may reduce the exchange of the country.
“It could reduce the import material dependence. The fuel usage in Indonesia reached about 1,4 million barrel per day while Indonesia could only produce 778 thousand barrel per day,” Paulus said.
Based on Aprobi, in 2018, the palm oil biodiesel absorption in the domestic reached 3,75 million kl or equal to ~ 23,58 million barrel. (T2)
