Gamal Nasir: Want to Export, Improve the Governance

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – Discussing about the plan to export palm oil seeds, expert and plantation figure, Gamal Nasir reminded that it is important to improve palm oil seed governance in national scale because many illegal sprout trades still happen and they are even more massive by advantaging marketplace.

Gamal Nasir thought, there should be no more fake seed distribution in the society because Indonesia is the biggest palm oil producer in the world. By having 260 million palm oil seeds, the planters should not be difficult to get the seeds.

“Before exporting the seeds, it needs to think that seed producers should confirm that people could access palm oil sprout easily. The sources of seeds should deliver good service and the people could get accurate information, access to qualified seeds,” he said, as in the official statement to InfoSAWIT, Friday (27/1/2023).

The facts are 19 seeds palm oil producers produced 62 varieties. It means, the people should actually be easy to get superior seeds. But the facts revealed only few superior seeds and few sources of seeds that the people know. The order to get seeds is always out of numbers for some seeds producers and it may spend 6 months or more to get. Some sources of seeds focus to their needs only.

Besides the people within small numbers or about 100 to 200 sprout, namely independent smallholders, are not accommodated in the service. Those who wanted to get certified seeds should get from unofficial sources, through marketplace. In the end, they got fake ones. This should not happen anymore.

“It is better if the seeds producers and the government are obliged to facilitate the people to get certified seeds. Besides, the regulation that obliges seeds producers to allocate 20 – 30% for the planters, should be enliven again,” the founder of Gamal Institute said. (T2)
