2022 CPO Production Decreased 0,34 Percent to be 46,7 million tons

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – According to Indonesian Palm Oil Association (IPOA) crude palm oil (CPO) production in 2022 could be reaching 46,729 million tons or smaller than it in 2021 that reached 46,888 million tons or decreased about 0,34%. This was the four years in a row to get decreasing or stagnant production since palm oil plantations were commercially developed in Indonesia.

Chairman of IPOA, Joko Supriyono said the decreasing production happened for some reasons, such as, there was no new planting after moratorium runs and the low realization of smallholders replanting program (SRP). These really had something to do with palm oil industries namely in its production in Indonesia.

He also said, SRP which mistargeted, and the new plantings that laid about 600 thousand hectares in the past five years, blurred the hope to increase the production from the new plantings.

“The expensive (CPO) some time ago made many planters delayed SRP. The old trees which are low in productivity, are getting in bigger numbers,” he said in a press conference about Kinerja Industri Sawit 2022, which InfoSAWIT attended at Hotel Sahid, Wednesday (25/1/2023) in Jakarta.

The 2022 consumption in this country totally reached 20,968 million tons, or higher than it in 2021 which reached 18,422 million tons. The consumption was dominated by food industries reaching 9,941 million tons or higher than it in 2021 which reached 8,954 million tons and higher than it in 2019 before pandemic which reached 9,860 million tons. The consumption for oleo-chemical industries reached 2,185 million tons which 2,8% less than it in 2021 or 2,126 million tons or much lower than the consumption in 2019 - 2020 that reached 25,4% and 2018 - 2019 that reached 60%. This might relate to Covid-19 pandemic. The 2022 biodiesel consumption reached 8,842 million tons which got higher than it in 2021 or about 7,342 million tons. (T2)
